Installation Techniques for Hardscape Projects

Arrowhead strives for quality in all of our installations. Our installers take pride and the time to ensure every job has adequate base preparation and compaction. Over the last 28 years, we have come to the conclusion that installing a permeable base using multiple grades of angular gravel is 100% essential and key to a quality installation with little to no repairs.

This permeable base does not harbor water, which was always a problem in the past due to settling caused by weather, frost, and freezing conditions. Our base depth is a minimum of 10 to 12 inches, with the first 6 inches consisting of large angular 3-inch limestone gravel commonly used on roadways and highways, weighing approx. 7,000–10,000 lbs per sq. ft. We evaluate the site, soil, and conditions to determine what is needed to provide the best quality installation for your specific project.

There are a number of benefits to the permeable base including:

  • The bedding can (carefully) be walked on without creating substantial footprints
  • It can be used for all product sizes
  • It is ideal for raised patios and steps because the system eliminates washout
  • It is more difficult for weeds to root and thrive in clear stone
  • There is no room for insects to nest under the pavers
  • The materials are workable in essentially any climate, as well as inclement weather

We stand by our installation and guarantee our work. Unilock provides a lifetime warranty based on manufacturer’s specifications. Let Arrowhead Brick Pavers Inc. install your new outdoor living space.

Installation Techniques

Permeable Base Installation

We use a high-performance permeable base system with multiple layers of angular gravel to ensure proper drainage and long-term stability. This method prevents water retention, reducing the risk of settling and damage over time.

Deep Foundation Preparation

Every project includes a minimum 10 to 12 inches base depth, starting with large 3-inch angular limestone for maximum strength. This solid foundation is essential for supporting heavy loads and maintaining surface integrity.

Advanced Compaction Process

Our installations are compacted to approximately 7,000 to 10,000 lbs per square foot, creating a dense and stable base. This minimizes shifting and ensures a long-lasting, professional finish.

Site-Specific Installation Planning

We carefully evaluate soil conditions, site layout, and environmental factors before installation. This allows us to tailor each project for optimal durability and performance.

Erosion & Washout Prevention

Our system is ideal for raised patios, walkways, and steps, as it eliminates washout issues. The permeable structure keeps materials in place even during heavy rain or changing weather.

Weed & Pest Resistance System

Using clear stone in our base reduces the likelihood of weed growth and prevents insects from nesting beneath the pavers. This keeps your outdoor space cleaner and easier to maintain.
